BIOLUM

The general objective of the BIOLUM project is the development of a lighting system for a device to measure the Erytrocyte Sedimentation Rate (VSG or ESR), faster and cheaper than available on the market today. Being the ultimate purpose of the system to obtain data on blood clotting.

On the other hand, it is intended to go further in this innovative development by seeking an extrapolation of the system for other types of analysis equipment that require the same types of optical measurements. Obtaining the different pieces that make up the optical system through 3D printing significantly reducing the associated costs. At the same time it provides high flexibility to the system, allowing its incorporation into multiple measurement systems already available in laboratories, such as optical microscopes.

The novelty that characterizes this project is that the lighting system for the measurement of ESR by incorporating it in a device allows the obtaining of results in a minimum time, enabling to achieve an early detection of diseases and obtaining blood clotting data. In addition to reducing the volume of waste generated by promoting the sustainability of the planet by eliminating the dependence on disposable materials, used in most equipment on the market today.
